HRTS Exceeds Giving Tuesday 2023 Goal, Providing Meals for 65 Students

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

2023 Giving Tuesday HRTS 65 Students Sponsored

Sterling, VA – November 29, 2023 – The Hunger Response Team of Sterling (HRTS) is excited to announce that we surpassed our Giving Tuesday 2023 fundraising goal! Thanks to the incredible generosity of our supporters, we raised enough funds to provide six meals a week for 65 of our 288 Backpack Buddies—significantly exceeding our goal of sponsoring 50 students.

The Backpack Buddies program is one of HRTS’s core initiatives, ensuring that students in need receive meals during weekends when school resources are unavailable. With the funds raised, 65 students will now have the security of knowing they will receive consistent, nutritious food every week.

“Surpassing our goal this year means so much to us, especially as food insecurity continues to be a significant issue in our community,” said Kathleen Bellamy, Marketing & Communications Volunteer for HRTS. “Each meal we provide helps to ensure that our students can focus on their education and growth, not where their next meal will come from. We are deeply grateful to everyone who donated and helped us achieve this incredible milestone.”

Giving Tuesday is a global day of generosity that inspires people to support organizations working to make a difference in their communities. HRTS is honored to have such a dedicated group of supporters who believe in the power of local action to create meaningful change.

While we celebrate this success, our work is far from done. With 288 students currently enrolled in the Backpack Buddies program, we still have a long way to go to meet the full needs of our community. Every donation continues to help us get closer to that goal.
